California Trail Back Country Byway

Basics
Length:
96 miles (154 km)
Time:
3 hours to enjoy the byway.

Description

The California Trail Back Country Byway originated from 250,000 emigrants who traveled from Independence, Missouri to California over 150 years ago. The emigrants passed through many places in northern Nevada on their way to California, including Wells, Crescent Valley, Elko, Spring Creek, Carlin, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, Mill, Imlay, Humboldt, Lovelock, Fallon, Silver Springs, Sparks, and Reno.

Today the California Trail aligns closely with Interstate 80. Along the byway camping sites are near Wells, Spring Creek, and Rye Patch Reservoir. Along with camping, feel free to visit places like Pyramid Lake that make the California Trail Back Country Byway exciting as well as rich with history.
