Description
The Animas City Trail offers a quick workout ride for mountain bikers in the Durango area. The Animas City Trail climbs quickly and steeply and descends just as fast, giving a good cardio blast and requiring the downhill reflexes kick in.
The Animas City Trail is actually two trails; the singletrack is a pedestrian trail and the double track is a bike trail. Riders should take note of this and find the correct route. The beginning climb can either be ridden straight up or on switchbacks. In addition, the downhill can be quite loose and has several ledges along the way. Riders generally go counter-clockwise on this loop.

While riding any trail system it is a great idea to include a repair kit and first aid kit. Remember, the Animas City Trail has a designated bike route. Please do not ride on the Pedestrian Trail and be considerate on the trails and understand right of way protocol. The Animas City Trail is located in the mountains and the area can experience sudden weather shifts, so riders should bring appropriate warm layers in anticipation of this.
