Description

Dissecting 24 miles of the Mark Twain National Forest, the Blue Buck Knob Scenic Byway cuts through wooded lands arrayed with oak and pine. The dense woodlands and streams dotting the landscape perfectly characterize Missouri's Ozark hill country. The forest's arresting views, cozy streams, and developed recreation areas, make this byway an enchanting diversion for any traveler.

Each twist and straightway along this byway offers stunning views and opportunities for outdoor recreation. Several overlooks treat adventurers to resplendent panoramas. Noblett Lake Recreation Area and two streams are situated along the byway. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed Noblett Lake during the Great Depression. Camp, and you can still picnic under the shade of sugar maples, shortleaf pines, and black and white oaks or take a horseback ride or a hike among the wildflowers that sprinkle the rugged terrain near Noblett Lake. The recreation area contains a nine-mile hiking trail circling the lake, which branches off as the northern trailhead for the Ridge Runner National Recreation Trail that connects with the North Fork Recreation Area. Bass, blue grill, crappie, and catfish lure anglers to the lake for hours of refreshing repose.

The Blue Buck Knob Scenic Byway is a delightful drive, boasting alluring scenes and pleasant recreational opportunities. Its short length, entertainment potential, and scenic qualities make this byway an amusing frequent afternoon excursion or a delightful weekend trip.
