Description

As it passes through the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Kings Hill Scenic Byway connects Central Montana's silvered past with its bright recreational future.

Montana's history revolved around the state's wealth of silver. Nineteenth-century prospectors flooded into the Neihart area with hopes of striking it rich, hopes that would be dashed when the US shifted to the gold standard. While the mines may have closed, their rich history remains. Visit the Neihart Star mine and experience the past.

The seventy-one-mile Kings Hills Scenic Byway traverses the Little Belt Mountains, passing limestone outcrops and sloping mountain valleys. Along with several hundred miles of rugged mountainside roads that cross the byway, the Pioneer Heritage Trail offers access to the high, forested backcountry.

During the winter months, the King's Hill Scenic Byway sports 200 miles of marked snowmobile trails. For those who prefer to explore under their own power, the Silvercrest Cross-Country Ski Trail System offers a 17-mile alternative. Along with horizontal winter exploration, the Showdown Ski Resort offers vertical, with 34 downhill ski trails.

From white to silver, the King's Hill Scenic Byway takes you through the colorful heritage of the Rockies.
